Darkroom

The West End Photography Club (WEPS) has darkroom facilities in the West End Community Centre (WECC) at 870 Denman St, Vancouver. This is a community based facility. There is no paid darkroom manager. Darkroom management is done by the members themselves. It is expected that all members using the darkroom will participate in up-keeping, cleaning and maintaining the darkroom.

Accessing the Darkroom

Required:

  1. West End Photographic Society Membership ($36 per annum)
  2. Darkroom Access Card – $25 for 15 hours
  3. A booking made through the Club Coordinator (West End Community Centre staff member).

  • Ilford 500 (on loan) – 35 mm, 6×6, 6×7, 4×5, 35mm slide
  • Breseler 23C II enlarger – 35 mm
  • Durst M601 – 35mm, 6×6
  • Nikor 6×7 – 35mm
  • Focusing lens
  • Light table with loupe
  • Film developing tanks 35mm, 120,¬† and 4×5 (on loan)
  • Paper developing trays: 8 x 10, 11 x 14, 18 x 24
  • Easels – 5×7 fixed, 2 four-blade up to 11×14 (plus one on loan), 1 two-blade 11×14, 1 two-blade 16×20
  • Beakers
  • Tongs
  • Contrast filters
  • Paper dryer
  • Contact sheet glass
  • Dry mount press and tacking iron (to 11×14)¬† (on loan)

Chemical Supplies Provided

  • Paper developer (Ilford Multgrade)
  • Stop (Kodak)
  • Fixer (Ilford)
  • Photo wash (for fibre prints) (Ilford)
  • Film Developer (Blanzinal)
  • Photo – Flo (Kodak)

Members May Purchase

  • dry mount tissue (8×10 – $1.00 per sheet)

Members Provide Their Own:

  • Paper
  • Rags/cloths (Paper towels are not permitted as they create dust.)
  • Goggles, gloves, aprons
  • Negative sleeves
  • Burn and dodge materials

Members may bring their own chemicals to the darkroom, but they must be removed from the darkroom at the end of the session.

At this point, members, at their own risk, may store their paper in the darkroom,.
